Our Chambers
The history of our Chambers can be traced back to the 1970s. Utmost integrity has always been the cornerstone of our practice, as evidenced by the fact that various of our former members have held (and continue to hold) appointments at all levels of our judicial hierarchy, as well as in other public offices. We seek to maintain this tradition of offering solid legal services via our Chambers located in the heart of the commercial district of Hong Kong.
Litigation and Arbitration
Members of our Chambers have played active roles in the advancement and protection of hotly contested rights in a broad spectrum of both civil and criminal matters. Various of our members also have extensive experience acting as counsel or arbitrator in international as well as domestic arbitrations governed by different institutional rules.
We pride ourselves in giving clients concise and definitive answers to the legal questions raised and giving the Court exhaustive, clear, and to-the-point assistance with the minimum use of judicial time. We are in keeping with the latest technological advancements but, as a rule, maintain personal perusal and consideration of all instructions and will only proffer legal work and/or advice after such independent and critical review.
Mediation
Our areas of practice have evolved with times. We recognize that litigation is a solution of last resort and do encourage exhaustion of other means in resolving disputes.
Our members are frequently appointed as mediators of domestic and international disputes; some of them also sit as Masters presiding over Case Settlement Conferences in the District Court. Since the implementation of the Civil Justice Reform in Hong Kong in 2009, our members have mediated well over 5,000 cases. We seek to build rapport between the parties involved, keep them focused on the real issues in contention, and encourage recognition of the realities and acceptance of practical, tailored-made solutions. The mediation techniques developed by our members have oftentimes led to amicable settlements. This has resulted in regular invitations by institutions, including local and overseas universities, for the sharing of our experiences with students and practitioners alike.
As connectors between the Greater Bay Area and the world
Our members are all fluent in Chinese and possess a profound appreciation of Chinese culture. Four of our members are amongst the current pool of over 50 Hong Kong barristers now qualified as Greater Bay Area lawyers. They have developed a strong footing in handling cross-border litigation and arbitration, including the enforcement of mainland judgments and/or arbitral awards in Hong Kong. They are regularly consulted on diverse issues involving cross-border infringements, family relations, and commercial transactions arising from inter-connected entities within the GBA.
With the coming into force of the Second Agreement Concerning Amendments to the CEPA Agreement on Trade in Services, those of our members recognize their roles as connectors in the 2 ways flow between the Mainland and Hong Kong. In this context, we stand ready to provide practical legal solutions to Mainland-based entities interested in using Hong Kong as a conduit to access the wider international market. Likewise, we are well positioned to advise foreign entities on the setting up of Hong Kong-invested enterprises to take advantage of business development opportunities in the GBA and the Mainland.
