Pupillage

Our pupils have a track record of academic excellence, aptitude for research, modesty and, above all, a motivation to excel at the Bar.

We offer 3-month and 6-month pupillages every year.  Our pupils get to assist in the work of all our members and are exposed to different facets of legal work.

We process applications on a rolling basis.  Competition is keen.  Interested applicants are encouraged to apply early during their final year of study prior to commencing pupillage.

Applications should be made in writing to the barrister with whom the applicant intends to serve her or his pupillage, or to:

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the Pupillage Committee.

Our chambers is firmly committed to the principles of equality and non-discrimination.  Applicants of all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds are welcome.  Whilst pupils undertaking pupillage on or after 1 September 2019 will be paid a monthly honorarium of at least HK$6,000 pursuant to paragraph 11.9A of the Code of Conduct of the Hong Kong Bar Association, pupil masters may at their sole discretion offer a higher honorarium on a case by case basis in light of the specific circumstances of each pupil.  Those who have special need during their pupillage are encouraged to discuss the same with their prospective pupil masters.

Pupillage

We offer both summer and winter mini-pupillages.  Pupils usually spend one to two weeks in Chambers and in court to observe and learn about practice at the Bar.

We are happy to consider applications from university students who have a genuine interest in joining the Bar, whether currently studying in law school or not.

Applications should be made by email, enclosing a curriculum vitae, to the Mini Pupillage Committee at minipupillage@rwchambers.com
