Pupillage
Pupillage
We offer 3-month pupillage every year. Our pupils get to assist in the work of all our members and are exposed to different facets of legal work.
We process applications on a rolling basis. Competition is keen. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply early during their final year of study prior to commencing pupillage.
Applications should be made in writing to the barrister with whom the applicant intends to serve her or his pupillage, or to:
Pupillage Committee
RW Chambers
Rooms 3206-7, Alexandra House
The Landmark, Central
Hong Kong
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the Pupillage Committee.
Our chambers is firmly committed to the principles of equality and non-discrimination. Applicants of all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds are welcome. Whilst pupils undertaking pupillage on or after 1 September 2019 will be paid a monthly honorarium of at least HK$6,000 pursuant to paragraph 11.9A of the Code of Conduct of the Hong Kong Bar Association, pupil masters may at their sole discretion offer a higher honorarium on a case by case basis in light of the specific circumstances of each pupil. Those who have special need during their pupillage are encouraged to discuss the same with their prospective pupil masters.
Mini-Pupillage
Our mini-pupillage programme is designed to provide prospective barristers with first-hand experience of the Hong Kong Bar, as well as an understanding of what day-to-day life at RW Chambers is like. We are happy to consider applications from university students who have a genuine interest in joining the Bar, whether currently studying in law school or not.
We offer both summer and winter mini-pupillages. Each mini-pupillage period usually lasts two weeks. Applicants are required to observe the following deadlines:
-
Applications for the summer season (i.e., June, July, and August) should be submitted on or before 30 April of that same year; and
-
Applications for the winter season (i.e., December and January) should be submitted on or before the preceding 31 October.
Late applications will not be entertained.
All applications should be addressed to the Mini-Pupillage Committee of RW Chambers and made by email to minipupillage@rwchambers.com, enclosing a Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae and clearly indicating the desired mini-pupillage period(s).
